Wellington, Aug. 3, 3.30 p.m.
The petition from the agricultural leaseholders, presented by Mr. Macandrew, was referred to the Waste Lands Committee, who have reported upon it, refusing the prayer of the petitioners.
The same Committee, which is composed of squatters, with one or two solitary exceptions, have this day affirmed a resolution giving the runholders a right to select within the Goldfields 640 acres in one agricultural lease, the payment of which is not to exceed 20s. per acre.
The petition from the Tuapeka leaseholders was presented by Mr. Brown, and referred to the Goldfields Committee, and on that account will receive better consideration than the Waitahuna one.
The Waste Lands Committee are squabbling over Macandrew's Amendment Hundreds Act.
The financial proposals are now under discussion, and the majority of the House are favourable to them.
