LAWRENCE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The üßual monthly meeting of the Lawrence School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Fx'iday last. Present :—: — Messrs. Jamison, Harrop, Pressly, Campbell, and the Secretary.

A letter from Mr. Hislop, in reply to one addressed to him by the Secretary, in which an application for the sum of £75 was made to enable the Committee to »nake a fair start for the future management of the school, was received. The Secretary was instructed to again communicate with Mr. Hislop. on the subject, requesting that gentleman to. use his influence with the Government on behalf of the school, and also to inform him that the limited means at the disposal of the Committee have prevented them insuring the building for the laat two years.

The use of one of the class rooms was granted to Mr. Menzies two nights a week for evening classes, at the rate of ss. a week.

A letter from the Secretary of the Lawrence Christy Minstrels, expressing their willingness to give a performance in aid of the school funds, was received with thanks.

An account from P. Brosnan, for labor on school grounds, £8 365., was considered, and the matter left with the Secretary to settle at a reduced figure if possible.

The following report by the Visiting Committee was then read :—": — " The Committee have to report that they have visited the school, and found the various duties to be carried on efficiently. They examined the roll-book, and found the attendance keeping up very well, considering the unfavourable weather. They regret to observe that there is not that punctuality observed by one of the teachers which they consider desirable as an example to the pupils. The several improvements had been completed, and the premises were thereby comparatively clean and comfortable."

The report was received and adopted

Mr. Pressly was authorised to use his discretion in sowing the necessary seeds in the school grounds.

In room of Mr. Jamison, who retires by rotation from the Visiting Committee, Mr.-Pressly was appointed. This concluded the business of the the meeting.
