WAITAHUNA.

(From a Correspondent)*

An examination of the school took place on Friday last. It was conducted by Mr. Clark, the master, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Menzies, of Lawrence. A number of the parents of the pupils, and others interested in education, were present. At the close Mr. Menzies expi'essed himself gratified at the intelligence, of the children, and the efficient state of the s.chool.

A number of valuable prizes were distributed to those who had distinguished themselves in the various classes. The writer well recollects the,, thrill of pride and pleasure he experienced at the sight of his own name in print on an occasion of tho same kind, now many years ago. Perhaps you will confer a similar pleasure on the prize-takers in this instance by printing their names.

We have had abundance of amusements hei'e of late. Mids Doliy c ; Green was here on Saturday -week ; but,! owing chiefly to the stormy niglit and bad roads, her audience was v&ry small-. Thatcher and company had better luck on Tuesday night. The singing of Daniels and Small took very well. Thatcher did not justify the expectations of the good folk of Waitahuna. He was not half so personal and impertinent as most of them hoped he would prove. Perhaps we have no game high enough for his wit tq Uy at. Our Sixpenny Readings were started thi3 season again, but after a death in life existence of three nights, they have been definitely closed.

The Oddfellows soiree is the next affair on the tapis, and tha brethren are, I understand, making arrangements so as if possible to eclipse the splendour of previous anniversary festivities,
