TUAPEKA MOUTH.

"Who is to be schoolmaster?" has been the all-engrossing subject of enquiry in this district for a considerable time back, and I am glad to be able to inform you that it is at List decided. A,^a,meeting, held here on Friday evening last, in Mr. Taylor's store, communications were read from Mr. Hislop, enclosing applications from Mr. A. B. Matthews, of the Blue Spur, and Mr. Thomson, of Dunedin (b,oth of whom, were highly, recommended) with directions for .the Committee to choose, between those two gentlemen. Mr. Matthews being proposed and seconded," and no one coming forward to propose Mr Thomson, Mr Matthews was declared duly elected. I think that the _Commr£liee have acted wisely for once in choosing Mr. Matthews, whose character is known to be without reproach, and being a married man, his . wife has promised to teach the girls needlework, which is decidedly an advantage. Bosides, this place is more suitable for a married than a single man, from the fact of his having a home of his own where he can spend his leisure- hours without having to depend much on- the outer world f>r amusement or enjoyment. I trust now that this place has got a schoolhouse and schoolmaster we shall soon have a more settled population, there being everything to recommend it to the intending settler— fir3t-clas3 grazing and agricultural land, water and firewood adrlibitnm, and -a very healthy -climate. It appears there is a gentleman in this district very indignant at your having headed my last " From our own Correspondent,"- as he says he is "our own," and you should have headed mine "From a Correspondent," so you can put me down anything you like so long as you do not "write me down an ass."-
