TAPANUI RACES AND SPORTS.
The Races and Sports at Tapanui came off on Friday the 31st ult, and January the Ist, as advertised. The attendance was fair, and the weather good. The following are the chief results of the two days sports :—: — Maiden Plate, of 15 soys. — Smith's Lilly Dale, 1 ; L.ewitfs Duchess, 2. Tapanui Town Plate, of 25 soys. ; distance, 3 miles. — Andrews' Magenta, 1 ; Williams' Alice, 2 ; Pollock's Penelope, 3. Hurdle Race, of 15 soys. ; distance, 2 miles, over 7 flight of hurdles. — Williams' Fire-Eater, 1 ; Hazlitt's Veno, 2. Handicap Trotting Race, of 15 soys. ; distance, 3 miles. — Logan's Violet, 1 ; Cowie's King, 2 ; Basting's Tommy, 3. Consolation Stakes, of 10 soys. — Hutton's Miss Fleet, 1 ; Williams' Alice, 2. On Saturday there was a district race, of 10 soys., in mile heats, got up. — Aiken's Beeswing, 1 ; M'Lauchlan's Paddy, 2. The atMetic sports followed :—: — Mile Race. — Parry. 200 yards Race. — Croker. 100 yards Jiace. — Croker. Vaulting with the Poll. — Smith Ist, Cowie 2nd. Standing High Jump. — C. North Ist.
