SPORTS AT THE DIGGER'S REST, WAIPORI
The miners in the vicinity of Mr. Dickson's store met on New Year's Day to spend a few hours in the usual sports of the season. The winners of the various prizes were as follows :—: — Quoits.— W. Russell. Aunt Sally. — John Frazer. Sack Race. — John Frazer. Foot Race, 200 yards.— James Butterworth. Hop, Step, and Jump. — James Butterworth. Three Standing Jumps. — James Butterworth. 200 yards Race. — James Ross. Three Legged Race. — John Frazer and E. Teague. 100 yards Race. — John Frazer. Vaulting with Poll.— Wm. Baptist, 7ft. 9in.
