LIEUT. SAXBY'S PERDICTIONS.

Sir,— l learn, with pain, that many of our citizens have been put to unnecessary alarm by the prophecy of Lieutenant Saxby, It.N., that great tidal disturbances will occur on the sth of this month. I learn, sir, that this panic has increased to such an extent that many of the dwellers in Ross-Place are preparing for a flight to Moiint Benger. .Now, my attention has long been devoted to meteorological pursuits, and I am in a position to define exactly the limits of the expected deluge it would be out of plfico to give in full here the elaborate calculation by -which I have arrived at these results ; but mathematicians will understand me when I said that after extracting the square root of the ecliptic, I deducted the result from the natural sine of the hypothenuse of the fifth angle of a quadrilateral inscribed iv a circle. By this elaborate and intricate operation, I arrived at the conclusion, that half way \ip the Round Hill would be the extreme limit of the oceanic encroachment. Not only Tuapeka, but Waitahuna also, are perfectly secure. The only real danger the inhabitants of these places need apprehend, will be from the horde of hungry Clutha and Dunedin refugees, Who may be expected on Monday evening.
