A COMPLAINT.

(To the Editor of the Tuapeka Times.)

Sib, - 1 consider it my duty to lay before the miners, and public generally of this district, a few facts as to our Warden's administration of his office, and of the justice of which, all may judge for themselves.

First, some time ago I made an .application for an extended claim ; this application was objected to by J. Herbert, on the ground that it included part of an adjoining claim ; but the owners of this 3aid claim swore in evidence that this application took in no part of their claim. The objector (J. Herbert) swore in evidence that the claim encroached upon was a two-acre claim ; the certificate proves it was not a two-acre claim. Now, sir, in the face of this evidence the Warden refused the application, at a ruinous loss to me. Then, not satisfied with ruining me by the stoppage of the claim ,for five months when water was 1 plentiful, he now seeks to deprive the wages, men of their rights, by refusing to transfer shares that I sold to them to satisfy their claims for wages clue. Now, Mr Editor, as all my title afcd interest has been sold , under an execution from the Supreme Court, and as I have no other means of paying them, are these men to be deprived of their hard- won earnings through our Warden's refusal to do his duty 1 . He must be very ignorant of the Goldfields Act, or he would know that all workmeti have a lien on the claim till their wages are paid ; and I always thought it was a Warden's duty to protect the miners ; in this case he has been applied to, but refuses to interfere. Is it any wonder there is a cry of depression in trade and poverty among the ,miners in this district when we have a Warden who, instead of forwarding the mining interest, obstructs it in the way I have mentioned above. — I am, &o , Edwaed Vebxon: Tiiapeka MoxitK September 30fch.
