£50,000.
Residents of the Coast from the Fount to Opotiki have every reason to be gratified with the amount placed on the Estimates for the prosecution of. the line eastward. The sum of £50, COO is a fairly substantial one, and shows that the arguments of those who advocated so strongly the opening up of the fertile lands which the route of railway traverses, carried weight with the Minister for Public Works.
Our ; sympathy goes out to our Tauranga friends in having their hopes regarding..-the.- harbor bridge so cruelly dashed to. the ground, but they must recognise now that the time is not yet ripe for sinking a large sum of money in. a structure that will not be required for some years to come. The money can be better expended in giving the farmers access to the water front. The bridge will come in time, but that time has not yet arrived.
