MEETING OF TE PUKE RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Te Puke Rugby Union was held on Saturday evening, there being present Messrs E. Ansell (in the chair), A, Montgomery, J. Henry, J. McEwen, A. L. Jones, G. Hall (Secretary), and delegates Marsland, Aratuku (Rangiuru) and Drabble (Paengaroa). Correspondence was received from the Whakatane Union to the effect that they would endeavor to send a team to Te Puke at the conclusion of the Cup matches. Mr H. E. Butcher wrote, forwarding a donation, and signifying his intention of presenting badges to the team that won the Championship. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Butcher for his generosity. Mr Ryburn was appointed to officiate as referee in the match, Rangiuru v. Maketu to be played at Te Puke on Saturday next. A junior match between Maketu and Rangiuru will also be, played on the same ground, commencing at 1 o'clock. For this game Mr Hall was appointed referee. Mr Robt. Bell was asked to handle the whistle in the Paengaroa—United match at Paengaroa. The team of Native footballers to tour Australia left Auckland by the Maheno yesterday. The Te Puke Union is represented in the team by Korno Tapsell. The Cup match between the United and Maketu Clubs, played on the Te Puke ground, resulted in a win for the latter, after a keenly-contested game, by six points to nil. Mr Montgomery officiated as referee. Paengaroa defeated Rangiuru, contrary to anticipation, by A 8 points to 6. Maketu now leads for the Cup, not 'having suffered a defeat.
