IT CAN'T BE DONE.
(Written for the. Observer.) By Thomas Sharps, Onehunga. If you'd succeed you must not heed, Or care what people say, But go a-head, and with firrs tread Peruse your chosen way. If you aspire, if you desire ' A winning race to run, Cast doubts away, and never say, Or think, " It can't be done f" If in your mind you have designed A scheme the world rejects, Tho' friends maj chide and foes deride, And laugh at your projects, Be not dismayed at what is said, In malice or in fun, But persevere and show them clear It can, and will be done. At a false start don't lose all heart — First efforts often fail ; But you will find the constant mind Will in the end prevail. Then try again, and ne'er refrain Until success is won, And never sigh, and weakly cry, Or think, " It can't be done]" The teaching sage of every age Doth the great truth instil, That almost all obstructions fall Before persistent will. Then ne'er desist, but aye persist In what you have begun, Never be beat and ne'er repeat Those false words, " Can't be done."
