THE HYPOCRITE.
With hypocritical phiz and a drawling tone, Through the world he'd work his way When he kneels at night he will sigh and groan His piety to display : ' What a fool he must be to imagine we judge Of the man by his outward ways • We know that his praying is nothing bat f ud»e Like all that the hypocrite says 4T * For the truth and himself could never a^ree Since he came to man's estate ; ° But his love of, and trust in duplicity, Have raised him to opulence state. When mischief is brewing within his brain. And his heart overflowing with guile And he thinks that he will his purpose'gain He wears a Satanical smile ; ■■& When he offers his hand, with a graceful Jmfr And a frank and open air, Oh! keep a sharp look out. for the serpent's sthiff That s under the grasp so fair. ' For base cant is his creed, and he talks so sweefc, I liat an angel he might be ; But cast down your eyes and regard his feet And a cloven hoof you'll see. ' The high-crown hats are still very much worn. One of this style, a very pretty hat is composed of pale blue satin, tufted with red chenille.
