The manager reports for the past week \ ■ as follows:—"The winze below No. 3 level is down a distance of 59ft. The ' reef in the bottom is about 6ft in thick- ' ness; colors of gold were seen here the last time it was broken down. In the intermediate drive on the western side of the winze about 10ft was driven northward on the break. There is some quartz here close to the winze, from which a few pounds of picked stone were obtained. The drive is now being extended at right angles from the winze, to cut the crossreef on the western side of the break. Nd. 1 stope east on the Darwin reef is along 70ft from the winze; the reef is about 6ft in thickness, and gold is seen here occasionally in the hanging wall portion of the reef. No. 3 stope east on the Darwin reef is along 45ft from the wiaze ; the reef is 6ft in thickness, and colors of gold are also seen here in the hangingwall of the reef. No. 6 stope east on the Darwin reef is along 18ft from the ! winze; 3001 bs of specimens have been obtained from here during the week. There is still good mineral in the face of this stope. Stopingis still being coatinued on the western side of the winze; a fair amount of crushing dirt is coming to hand from here, and gold is occasionally seen in breaking it out. The third stope on the crossreef is along 96ft from the winze; the reef here is about 3ft in thickness. The fourth stope on the crossreef coming towards the winze is within 27ft of the winze; gold is seen here freely through the quartz. In No. 1 stope above the eastern intermediate the reef is about 4ft in thickness, and colors of gold are seen here in the hangingwall of the reef. The fifth stope above the western intermediate is along 20ft from the winze ; dabs and colors of gold are seen here frequently. Six men are still employed in breaking out quartz on No. 1 reef; a little gold is seen here occasionally. O'Sullivan's drive is in a distance 64ft; there is about a foot of quartz here carrying a little mineral. The chamber at No. 4 level was completed on Friday, and driving has been commenced. The country in the faoe of the drive is very hard. The drive on the reef from the Moanatairi Extended is in a distance of 47ft from the crosscut. Colors of gold were seen in a small stringer on the footwall side of the reef. It is my intention to try and keep the battery running con* stantly till the 24th inst. then it will be necessary to take a week at the holidays for the purpose of filling in the stopes and re-bedding three of the stamper boxes in the company's battery ; also putting up one new shoot from the brace to the hopper, &c. The air compressor has been fixed in position; the steam pipe has yet to be connected with the Moanatairi Extended boiler, but the work of laying down the air pipes has been commenced. During the past week a total of 216 loads of quartz have been crushed at the batteries for 17210za amalgam.—H. W. Moore." DARWIN. A little gold is seen in the quartz coming to hand from the tenth stope, while about 101 bs of picked stone have been obtained from the eleventh stope. Crushing operations were commenced at the Prince Imperial battery this morning with 12 head of stampers. TRENTON. The tender of Mills and party, at £2 2s 6d per foot, has been acc&pted for sinking this company's shaft a distance of 150 ft, and work will be commenced as soon as possible. The company consists of 36,000 shares, the area comprising 75 men's ground, and operations will be started with a balance of £456 4s in hand. SAXON. Since cutting the heave on No. 2 reef at No. 3 level, the drive has been extended about 30ft on the course of the reef, but as yet no settled oountry has been met with. There is a little quartz in the drive which carries good mineral. A rise has been started westward of the heave, where strong colom of gold were got in driving, and a leading stope was commenced to-day. The No. 3 reef in the drive is a nice looking body of stone, carrying favorable mineral, and a few colors of gold were seen when breaking down yesterday. MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The manager reports as follows »-«" The country in the south crosscut at No. 3 level maintains its favorable appearance, and I have obtained a few strong colors of gold from a small vein \n the eastern side of the drive. Where the gold is visible, the vein is about one inch thick, and on the junction with a black mineral seam. These mineral veins are crossing the face in all directions, but the quarts vein in some places is onlyha'f-a^ inch thick, and running nearly the same course as the drive. There is another small quartz vein showing in the centre of the drive. These veins will, X bopo, lead us to something better. J have never seen better country for carrying gold-bearing quartz on the Thames. The drive is now in 90 feet from chamber. —Tho3. Gilmoub."
