Tbe conference between tbe rarious Ambassadors to tbe Sublime Porte has been fixed for to-morrow, October Ist.
The Turkish War Office has mobilised eighty battalions of the reserve force, and instructions bare been given to recall as many troops as can be spared from tbe Island of Crete.

London, September 29. Mr H. Lamb, a Professor at the Unirersity of Adelaide, has been appointed to tbe Chair of Mathematics at Owen's College, Manchester. In the ten-mile pedestrian match between W. C.George, of Birmingham, and W. Commings, of Paisley, the latter won.
His Holiness the Pope, who has agreed to mediate between Germany and Spain with reference to the annexation of the Caroline Islands, has selected a committee to examine documentary evidence in connection with the islands.
