AUCKLAND.
This day. The action brought by Mr Kissling against the Government for the recovery of land taken as a battery site, came before Judge Gillies to«day. The recently passed Public Works Act Amendment Act to validate such appropriation was produced, and upon been found retrospective in its operation, nothing remained but to let the matter go before a Compensation Court in order to assess the value of the land. A child named Hair has died from poisoning at Otahuhu. Matches were found in the bed and create the belief that death was caused by sucking the heads.
