OUR MINES.
CAMBRIA.
Cleaning up and retorting for the past fortnight's operations of this company took place to-day, for the excellent return of 8930zs gold, reduced on melting to 8790zs 2iwt9. For this yield 331 loads of general dirt, obtained from all parts of the mine, and 3251bs of specimens were treated. The manager has commenced driving westward on the reef at No. 3 level. In the leading stope over this level the reef continues to look well, and colors of gold are seen in breaking the quartz. Driving eastward on the reef at the intermediate level was also started this morn--ID g'THAMES GOLDEN CROWN; The winze on the Waiotahi No. 5 reef, westward of the shaft, was[commenced last night.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
The manager reports for the past week as follows :—" The footwall branch of No. 2 lead in the drive and stopes on the western side of the break at No. 5 level is still very small, consequently the quantity of crushing dirt broken out is not large, but it crushes pretty well, and there are also a few ponnds of picked stone still being obtained. The No. 4 lead is looking just the same. The quartz obtained from here during the past three weeks (8 loads) were crushed separately at the battery this week, and yielded at the rate of loz of gold per load. Thi« is scarcely payable, as the lead is small, but there is still a probability that it may im» prove upwards. The stopes «n the No. 1 reef on the western side of the break below No. 4 level are yielding a good quantity of dirt, but it has not been shaping so well this week. This block of ground will last a couple of months yet, with the present number of men employed on it. Driving on the same reef eastward at the intermediate level upon both the banging, wall and footwall portions of the reef is being pushed ahead ; the reef looks very well in both drives, and should, I think, yield some better dirt than we have been getting lately. The hangingwall branch is coming round more to the right, and may possibly junction with the footwall portion, which may have the effect of making some gold. In the eastern drive at No. 3 level, the reef at present is very solid, and the ground hard. There is a bright mineral to be seen in the quartz, but no gold has been met with lately. As I am occasionally doing a little driving on the hanging wall lead on this level, where a little gold has been seen, during the past few days, I purpose taking the two men from the eastern drive and employing them on this lead for a time —G. S. CtABK." MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The excavation of the chamber having been completed, the manager is awaiting further instructions before proceeding with crosscutting operations. In the north drive, at No. 1 level, a white body of stone has been met with, from which a quautity of water is issuing. The country is a firm class of sandstone, and kindly for gold.
