Academy of Music.

Mr Fleming Norton appeared on Saturday night to a fair audience in bis entertainment entitled " Picnio Portraits," and earned for himself the goodwill of his audieuce by his really deter, intensely amusing, and care-dispelling performances. The veriest hypochondriac must needs disregard the ethics of the creed of his j race after sitting out Mr Norton's enter* J taintnent. Within the short spa« 3of an j kour and three quarters no less thanj fourteen characters were impersonated, and in nearly every instance an appropriate song was added. The most remarkable, and we might almost write delightful, portion of the programme was Mr Norton's whistling. He .introduced first "The Last Rose of Summer," and the finished execution of this, one of Moore's favorites, with variations, elicited a most enthusiastic encore. During the evening ■everal impersonations of characters of various eocial degrees were presented. The most amusing were—" The Jolly Fat Man," Mr Perkins; Miss Teresa Tremlow, an old maid of a somewhat tremulous conslitutiou ; Mr Spivins, a thorough muff; Mr Bigpe I'lubbes, a thorough Yankee ; the valorous Frenchman of Yidegousset, und Cbucklebead. rferr Diederichson was accompanist, and not only were his accompaniments all that could be desired, but bis interval music displayed a thorough mastery of the instrument placed under his control. His selections were duly appreciated by the audience. Saturday night's inclemency doubtless affected the attendance, but tonight we expect to see a large and appreciative audience to witness this finished entertainment, such as has only been given to the Thames by the renowned Maceabe.
