AUCKLAND.
This day. Destructive Fire.
A fire at Te Awamutu at 1.30 p.m. this morning destroyed Lewis' Hotel and eight other buildings, the total insurances on which were £4375, divided as follows :— Few Zealand, £2050; Colonial, £425; South British,. £900. The fire originated in the shop of a tailor named Ford : cause unknown. Ford's stock was uninsured.
The Castlstown-Hocho Murders
W- Sheehan was again before the Police Court to*day, when Sergt. Dunny, of the Royal Irish Constabulary, gave evidence, and the depositions of witnesses previously taken before a Magistrate ia Ireland were read. One of the witnesses (a boy") in his depositions swore that he saw Sheehan and his brother-in-law, Brown, place the bodies in a cart, and take them to the well in which they were found.
Bishops Moran, Eedwood, and Luck left for the Hot Lakes today.
