Thames High School.
A meeting of the Board of Governors of tbe High School' wad held in the Borough Chambers this afternoon, at which there were present His Worship the Mayor (iv the chair), and Messrs. A. Brodie, J. Marshall, L. J. Bagnall, J. McGowan, and J. H. Smith.
Communications were read notifying tho appointment of three Governors by the Government and three by the Borough Council. His Worship the Mayor was re-elected Chairman of the Board for the ensuing year.
Touchers for goldfield revenue for the sum of £96 for the months of November, December, and January were received.
The Education Department wrote ask* ing? s for certain statistical information in connection with the school, and it was resolved that the Head master and Secretary supply it.
A circular was read urging that technical education bearing on modern life should be paid attention to in the formula of the school —It was resolved that evening classes in connection with the school be resumed on the Ist of April.
The Piako County Council applied for permission to lay off a road, through Mr Wilson's section, and asked the Board to dedicate the land necessary, and provide a portion of the cost. —The letter was received, and it was decided to reply that tho Board did not consider the road necessary.
A request from Mr P. Ferguson, Chairman of a y meeting of Waiorongomai residents, that a portion of land be set apart for a cemetery, was read, it being resolred to reply that the law did not allow the Board to set apart land for that purpose; and in reply to a request that £500 be voted for forming streets through the township, it was resolved to reply that road making is not included in the functions of the Governors, and therefore under the circumstances they are unable to assist the applicants financially.
A request from tho Headmaster for some fittings in connection with the chemical classes was referred to the Visiting Committee with power to act.
