The Athletic Carnival.
The handicappers, appointed by the Committee attending to the arrangements of the sports meeting to be held on the Ist December next in the Parawai Gar dens, met last night, and dealt with the entries for the Sweepstake Handicap—the chief item on their programme. The distances comprised in the contests consequent on securing the prizes offered are : 150 yards ; 440 yards ; and 880 yards ; and as no less than twenty-three competitors entered the lists, it may be imagined the task of placing them at a starting point was no easy one. The arrangement of them, as made by the handicappers, was as follows : —
