OUR MINES.
NEW PEINCE IMPERIAL.
At No. 6 level the No. 2 reef has been broken down in the eastern drive. The country is a good class of sandstone, and gold was seen in the quartz, but the lode ianot at present well-defined. The winze is considerably in the hangingwall of the stopes, and the lode appears to strike back behind them, but this would probably be only for a few feet. The stopes between the shaft and the break are now nearly up to No. 5 level, and the other workings are without change to report. DEEP LEVEL CEOSS.The reef at the Imperial No. 5 level has now been driven on southward for over 50ft. It has averaged quite a foot thick, and showed gold each breaking, and is a fine strong lode, in good country, in the face. The manager computes that another 25ft of driving will see the junction with the Mariner No. 3 reef in hand, which should have a good effect on the lode now being worked. CAMBRIA. Only two tenders were received by the manager for sinking the shaft, and these were forwarded to the directors (by whom they will be considered to morrow) without the prices being made public. Another breaking took place to-day in the eastern drive on the reef, with the encouraging result that 61bs of specimen stone was bagged. KUEANUI HILL. Crushing was commenced to«day, twenty head being started on tributers' dirt and twenty on company's trial parcels. In the mine the small block from No. 1 winze on No. 1 reef below the tunnel level has been stoped out. No. 2 winze is down 22ft., and the country continues an excellent firm sandstone. The reef is not large, about four inches in width, but shows colors of gold when broken. There is no sign yet of the hangingwall leader which disturbed the reef in No. 1 winze at a depth of 20ft. KOOKY POINT. Retorting of the amalgam from the crushing at the Queen of Beauty battery took place this afternoon, for the good payable yield of 57ozs gold. The quantity of quartz crushed was 73 loads, and a few pounds of specimens, while a few ounces have yet to come from the silver. The stopes continue to look well. The drive to pick up the southward oontinuation of the Adelaide reef is manned by two shifts. Excellent sandstone is being penetrated, and as water is issuing from the face a body of stone should be close by. In the drive on No. 1 lode, a change for the better has occurred in. the sandstone ; the reef is a nice compact body of quartz, though no gold has been seen for a few feet. GOLD EETUENS. Lonehand.—Johnson and-party, <r\b"s--ters, have banked 9ozs. gold.
