PRINCE OP WALES' BIRTHDAY.
The 43rd anniversary of the birth of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, came round yesterday, but as it fell on a Sunday, it was decided to celebrate it to-day. This morning broke fine, and everything looked promising for the various outings arranged, but the ever-treacherous Jupiter Pluvius played us false once again, and his occasional showers of watery favors did much to mar the enjoyment of the pleasure seekers. The day was generally observed as a holiday, the public buildings and most of the business establishments being closed, while here and there bunting was displayed in honor of the occasion. Beside the sports at Tararu and the cricket match at Parawai, the Primitive Methodists had a picnic to the Parawai Racecourse, the Salvationists another to Mr Eeddish's paddock, and quite a number enjoyed a trip on the briny iv the p.s. Te Aroha. A large number of Aucklanders arrived by the Rotomahana on Saturday evening, and not a few Thamesites repaired to the Empire city of the north by the same vessel yesterday morning.
