Tararu Sports.

At the commencement of the day's proceedings, which took place on the Tararu Flat, there was not a large number of visitors on the ground, but as the day wore on, the attendance gradually improved. The first event on the programme was the 100 Yards Mniden Race.—Entrance, 2s; prize, £1. For this item there were twelve starters, and after a false start they were got away. A good race resulted in

McGregor ... ... ... 1 Steedman and Waka... dead heat

For the first heat of the Sweepstake, which was the second race in the programme, the starters were J. McGregor, P. McGregor, J. Patterson, F. Hail. T. Godkin, and N. Veale. The prizes wore —Ist prize, £7 ; 2nd, £2. All the competitors got well off, and there was a most exciting finish. A small blanket would have almost covered all the runners from start to finish, and the race was a most exciting ona, resulting in— J. Patterson ... ... ... 1 J. McGregor 2 T. Godkin 3 It was somewhat difficult to decide as to which was second and third. The second event of the sweepstake was next competed for, and brought out Hall, Paterson, Godkin, P. and J. McGregor, and Veale. This was really a grand race, and was run at a tremendous pace considering the very slippery ground, owing to the rainfall. There was hardly a judging distance between Nos. 1, 2, and 3, and the judge said— Paterson ... ... ... 1 T. Godkin 2 P. McGregor 3 It will thus be seen that Mr Paterson has won the handicap by being first in two out of three events, and as our reporter could not remain to see the finish of the meeting, we are unable to announce the second on the list. The duties of Judges were well performed by Messrs Stecdman and Thorburn, and Mr M. Casey made a most efficient starter. ,
