la reply to questions, it was stated that 150 acres of freehold land at Wallsend, Grey River, had been sold to the Westport Colliery Co. for £750. Government did not intend to take steps at present to compel the company to carry out the conditions of the lease.—Government had received a report on the result of tests made for determining the value of Portland cement made by Mr J. W. Thomson, at the Bluff, but it would not be wise to make the result public. Government would not hold out hope of assistance till tenders had been called for locally manufactured cement. Sir Julius Vogei gave notice of the introduction of the Property Tax, 1884, and New Zealand Loan Act, 1884. Mr Richardson moved that the roads (on the supplementary order paper No. 4 of the 18th September), which were gazetted as main roads on the 29th and 31st March, 1883, and on the 27th and 31st March, 1884, be declared to be main roads in terms of section 7 of the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882.— Agreed to. This day. The House went into Committee on the Westiand Education Sub-division Bill, and a long discussion ensued. The bill was reported with amendments, to be considered the following day. The Premier gave notice of his intention to move on Friday—"That the House meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday next for Government business only. The House rose at 2.20 a.m.
