London, October 14 The French Government demanded that the Becidiviste Bill should be discussed at the ru>xt sitting of the Chamber, but this was resisted, and a motion was passed deciding to await M. Leville's report as to the suitability of Cayenne for the deportation of criminals before proceeding with the measure. An early discussion was, however, agreed upon. It was contended that the present haste in the matter was uncivil to England, although it might appear pleasing to Germany. London, October 15. The Meridian Conference have accepted the meridian of Greenwich as the standard, the representatives of France and Brazil alone objecting to it. The offer of assistance recently made by Canada to the Cape Government has not been confirmed. England is urging that (he doings of the Conference to be held in Berlin should be limited to the unoccupied African territory.
