Deplorable Result of an Election.

[Bx TELEGUfAPH.] (FBOM OUII OWN COBBESPONDENT.)

Wellington, This day

A ludicrous, yet unfortunate result of political excitement, engendered during the late elections, has occurred in a district not a hundred miles from Gladstone, near Timaru. A young man of Israelitish antecedents contested an election with the sitting member, and was beaten. He is now suffering from political mania of a rabid character, and firmly sticks to the. belief that he is the elected of the 'intelligent, free, -and" independent voters of the South Canterbury constituency in question. He arrived from the' South by tbe s.s. Wanaka last evening, and now haunts the purlieus of theLParliamentary Buildings, in full expectation that he must redeem the confidence the electors have placed in him, and take his seat this afternoon. The unfortunate man is youthful in appearance, of small stature, but carries himself with' as much dignity as any member of the House, and appears to have very exalted ideas regarding his personal importance. He has not yet penetrated the sacred'precinctsVjfJflielobby, or the "Holy of Holies" of Parliament Jtiouse, butappi-ars fixed'in a resolve to enter the Chamber this afternoon. Probably the fond dreams of political eminence he .is priding himself on will be again dissipated under thi stern gaze and imposing presence of the Sergeant-at-Arms, should he attempt to enter tbo Chamber. His movements however .arc anxiously watched by all with feelings of interest, pity, and anticipation. '.
