The adjourned meeting of the Councii was;held this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Present—His Worship^the Mayor (in the Chair), and Orsßawdeh, Carpenter. Hume, Mennie.McAndreWjMcGrqwan, Speight, and Wilson^-—^The minutes of the^previous' regular and special meetings were read and confirmed.—■Correspondence, inward and was read; The only items; : of even slight importance to the burgesses were from Upper Albert street presidents desiring to form (a a Highway, Board, andl askiirg leave to Bever their connection^ with the Borough., It was decided to inform the applicants that the ■;Foreman of; Works had been instructed to attend to their coniplairit.— E. ißi- Edwards wrote re the Conncil paying their, share of the fencing ereoted between his Jproperty and the : Waitoa Borough Endowment. An application to lease the recreation ground could not be entertained.>i-The: patronage of the Oouncilv was ,granted tp a concert to be
given -by the Grahamstown Fire Brigade corps.-r-It was resolved in':connection with a> eommunication from the Colonial Secretary's office in relation to the Pedlars an&Hawkers by-law, that the law should be putinforce from Ist Sept. next.—An application by the Salvation Army for more ashes on the footpath outside their hall, was referred to the Works Committee, asfwas also a communication re the state of the footpath near B(ill s battery. —A few loads ©f cinders were authorised to be spread on the Bird-in-Hand hill cpad.^rA.n application from Mr Townsend, butcher, Mary street, for permission to plan*;;willows in Mary street subject to keeping the. water-tablos \'clear v was; grant(Bd,~Pastors 'of the Willoughby street congregations wrote, asking repairs to footpaths. The letters were received.— ■ Several footpath complaints were received —In answer to a letter from Mr McOowatt, Eecreation ground lessee, it was decided ; that half the rent be remitted on condi«? (ion thafc'jan Jequivalent amount of work be done in improving the ground. Applications for the position of Oollec tor, and all the offices held by Mr J. B Mason, were received from Messrs A. Fleming and W. Smith, and the former was appointed; while J. Rattray was appointed messenger) the other applicant being D.B. Browning. : The Health Officer's report was received and adopted, and the Works Committee's and Foreman of Works' reports (giving a statement of the works done) : were also adopted.
