SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting was then held to consider the by-law in relation to hawkers and pedlars, introduced by Or Carpenter, who spoke in its support, stating that it was unfair that persons should be allowed to come from a distance and sell goods here, to the detriment of local tradesmen, without contributing a shilling to the revenue.—The clauses were then considered seriatim, and with several slight alterations, including one which fixed the proposed fee at £2 for the six months, all were adopted except No. 8 (defining as hawkers all who did not occupy premises for at leastthree months) which was struck out.—The by-law as a whole will be brought up for consideration at next meeting.
