Borough Council.
The usual fortnightly meeting was held last night. Present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Ors Murdoch, Mennie, McAndrew, McGowan, Speight, Veale, Carpenter, and Wilson.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and a resume of the outward correspondence read orer.
LETTEES WEBE BEAD FBOM —
J. Watson and Q. Price, stating that they had completed the filling in and fencing of their lots on the beach, and reminding the Council of their promise to make the footpath.—Referred to the Works Committee.
F. Chappol, asking the Council to raise the culvert at the junction of Clarence and Alfred streets, Parawai Ward, in order to prevent the neighboring properties being flooded.—Beferred to the Worka Committee.
J. E. Hansen, requesting permission to cut down a poplar in front of his house, and suggesting it would be advisable to remote tho-e trees at present planted in the streeta.—Eeferred to Works Com» mittee, they to consider the whole subject. . J. Allen, contending that he had made no settlement with the Council re the Kuranui Bay reclamation contract, on which £90 was still owing him.—The Town Clerk stated that Eickett (who was in partnership with Allen) had received the money, and given a receipt in full for it. Ten residents of the Karaka Creek district, asking on what terms the Council would lav c" the water to their residences. —Eefp.r."ci ie the Water Supply Commits* '* X isiason, stating that he had visited the recreation ground and found the lessee had 1 acre of the big flat ploughed and sown and another acre ploughed.—The Town Clerk stated that the contract was that four acres should be sown by April 14th. The manager of the Bank of New Zealand, accepting the Council's offer to devote one-fourth of the annual revenue to the re-payment of the overdraft. OTHER MATTERS. The Finance Committee's, report recommending the payment of the accounts to the amount of £128 Os Id was adopted. The matter of the appointment of three members of the Borough Council to serve on the Hospital Committee, was postponed till next meeting. Cr Speight moved, in accordance with notice, that CrMcAndrew'a naaae be ! added to the Works Committee, and Cr Hume's to the Finance Committee—car« ried.—The same gentleman then gave notice that he would move at next meeting, for a re-organisation of the whole of the Borough committees. Cr McGowao, in refeuflog to the need of raising xapaey to meet the contracts |et, stated that there was £600 outstanding for Borough rates, and he thought gome notion should be taken to get this in.—lt was resolved that unless the ratei be paid within }4 days legal proceedings be taken for their recovery.
