Sydney, This day. Sailed on Tuesday afternoon, the steamship Wakatipu, for Wellington. A largely attended demonstration took place, last night in opposition to the immigration policy of the Government. It was decided to present a monster petition to Parliament praying for the cessation of immigration. The scheme of taxation set forth in the Treasurer's recent budget statement is being warmly criticised, and opposition to its proposals is daily increasing.
Adelaide, Yesterday. Arrived, last evening: The Orient steamship Garonne, from Plymouth, with mails via Suez and Brindisi, which left London December 21.
The South Australian Advertiser estimates there will be fully 350,000 bushels of wheat available this season for export from South Australia.
Mklbourne, Yesterday. At the wool sale this week, Messrs Goldsbro' and Co. (Limited), sold 11C3 bales at excellent; prices. Greasy wools realised up to lid, and scoured to 21|d. There was a large attendance of buyers, and brisk competition was experienced. The reporter of the Australasian, who visited the agricultural districts, says no damage has been done to the wheat crops by the inclement weather which of late has been experienced. .
