NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL
The No. 2 reof was broken down to-day in the eastern drive at No. 5 level, when some good colors and dabs of gold were seen. What was yesterday thought to be a branch striking into the hangingwall, proves to be only a small stringer., : DART. , The winze from No. 2 level on No .2 reef is now down 35ft; another breaking of the reef, whichis 18 inches wide, took place yesterday, when colors and dabs of gold were freely seen, and a pound or two of picked stone bagged. In the seaward drive on the same lode at No. 3 level, the quartz has opened out to 20 inches in width, showing colors of the precious metal as before. QUEEN OF BEAUTY. After considerable difficulty the manager has succeeded in opening up communica* tion with the Piako shaft; No. 6 level, and from there with the Bird-in-Harid shaft. This being an up-cast shaft, the ventilation in the crosscut at No. 8 level of the Queen of Beauty shaft is good, and work has been resumed there. The successful tenderer for the 209ffc having thrown up the contract without doing any work, the tender of Bailley and party at £1 per foot, has ! been -accepted for driving 100 ft. The country is a firm sandstone, but is favorable both for progress and the existence of gold bearing lodes. About 50ft more driving should intersect the Bird-in Hand reef. For some days the manager will be engaged perfecting ventilation as far as possible, and cleaning out the old Piako No. 6 level crosscut, but when this is done trial parcels will be take out from the Bird-in-Hand and Vanguard reefs. QUEEN OF ENGLAND, i The directors having for warded instructions to the mine manager to continue the crosscut at No. 4 level, he invites tenders in another column for drivings 50ft. This distance should intersect the No, 1 reef, and the country in the face at present ia favorable for gold. WAIOMO. Mr Robert Workman has been prospecting in this district for a long time past, but though he has found a goldbearing reef, the precious metal has net been in sufficient quantities to pay the expenses of working, and operations have been suspended. A crushing of 13cwt stone has just been finished for the yield of 16ozs gold. gold returns; Ktjbanui Hill. — LeManquais and party have cleaned up after crushing 3 tons of general dirt for the good yield of 19ozs 17dwts gold.
Moanataibi.—A parcel of 4| tons for Carter and party has yielded llozs 3dwts gold.
