Yesterday. A serious accident happened to Captain Whifcwell, of the steamer Charles Edward, to-day- The steamer ia undergoing repairs, and he was superintending the alterations. While the donkey-engine and boiler where being removed he proceeded to reader assistance to the men as the boiler was slipping. His clothes caught, and_ he was unable to escape being thrown against the bulwarks, and sustained a compound fracture of the thigh. Two projections of the boiler also pierced the flesh

of his thigh to a considerable depth causing hemorrhage. The great bone has been re set.
