Exploring Fatality.
Telegrams are to hand from the Alice Springs, one of the stations on tho overland telegraph line, that news reached there this morning that Giles'police party of five, sent to search for the missing exploring party underKeadford, have suffered great privations. Three of Giles' party perished from thirst, hut Giles himself and a boy are safe.

It is doubted whether Knowles the self-confessed murderer of F. M. Bates the actor, is sane.

Messrs C. S. Eoss and Co., of this city, report the sale of a cargo of kauri timber, ex Stanley, at the following average prices per 100 feet super.:—Hewn logs, lls 6d; sawn flitches, 14s 6d; sawn boards, 1-inch, 20s 3d; ditto Hto 3-inch, 203. The market is depressed.
