AUCKLAND.
, . This day. Shootingl Accident.
At Te Awamutu on Saturday Trooper James Weal, while marking at the rifle range, was accidentally shot by Trooper Alexander, who was firing at the 403 yards range. The bullet struck Weal near the point of the right shoulder, crossing his body, and is supposed to be lodged in the left lung, as the point of exit is not visible. Weal incautiously came out of the butts just as Alexander pulled the trigger. But slight hopes are entertained of his recovery. Curiously enough, Mr Weal, the father, himself a member of the corps, was accidentally shot at target practice some time r.^o. Mr Whitaker will, in all probability, leave for Sydney to attend the Conference by the steamer on the 12th insl. The use of the racecourse has at last been obtained for the Rifle Association. Latee. . The A.O. member Weal, who was accidentally shot at Te Awamutu on Saturday, died to-day. SpokingThe additional nominations for the Auckland Summer Meeting are: Cup — Gilderoy; Bacing Club Handicap— Taipouri; Steeplechase—Grey. Momus and Strathearn.
