In the caseDawson 7. the Queen, in the Supreme Court to day, in which the plaintiff claimed £2000 for the destruction of his sawmill by fire, caused by sparks from vi\paijsing engine, the jury returned a Terdiet for plaintiff for £160. The case will probably go to the Court of Appeal. This day. The libel action Den niston v. Daily Times commenced to-day. Messrs Stout and Brook appear for the plaintiffi and Messrs Smith and Chapman for the de« fendants.
The tender of Fergus and Blair, of Donedin, £94,074, for the construction of the Mersey-Deloraine Bailway has been accepted by the Tasmanian Government.
