NEW PLYMOUTH.
This day.
Major Atkinson addressed a large audience last night in the Alexandra Hall. The mayor wan in the chair. His speech was simply a repetition of the one he had delivered in the smaller districts. A vote of confidence was unanimously carried.
Mr Carkeek, the missing surveyor and his party arrived atUrenui last night, and hare just reacheditown. Mr Carkeek is annoyed that there should hare been an alarm about him, and says if the weather had been fine he should have remained out another week. He has been at work all the time, and having arms and ammunition was not afraid of being short of provisions. The country the party has been over is in much the same direction as Messrs Cheal and Robinson went through some six years ago. The party are all in good health.
