Mining Company Meeting.

The annual meeting of shareholders in the Smile .of. Fortune G.M.Co. was held this afternoon in the office, Brown street. Mr Porter occupied the Chair, and stated that the directors had met |his afternoon and declared a dividend of Is per share. He might also say that the mine was look ing well, and was never more likely to produce good crushing dirt than at present. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed. The balance sheet was read and adopted as follows :— EECBIPTS: Gold, £3439 7s sd; battery account crushing, £243 5s ; tribute account, £262 6s 3d; suspense account, £20; Bank of New Zealand overdraft May 16, 1882, £16 3s 9d ; Bank of New Zealand overdraft May 30, 1883, £9 13s sd—Total, £3990 15s lOd. expenditure: Expenses account, £17 3s 6d; wages account, £1961 lls ; salary and office cxi penses, £52 2s 6d; mining requisites, £310 8s sd; battery (repairs, &c), £73 19s 4d; travelling expenses, £13 5s 6d ; i freight and cartage, £23 14s 6d; goldfield's revenue. £28; dividend account, £1500; property tax, £6 15s sd; Bank of New Zealand interest and cash book, £3 15s Bd—Total, £3990 15s lOd.

On the motion of Mr Hennelly, seconded by Mr. J. Pearce, the old directors were re elected, and Mr Melhbuse was re-ap-pointed auditor. The manager's report, shewing the amount of work done during the year, was received. The total distance driven by the company was 635 feet, and two blocks, 150 feet in length, and 30 and 45 feet in depth respectively had. been stoped out. The dirt crashed by the Company and tributers was about 1500 tons, yielding 24740zs 12dwts gold, the return for the company being 18430zs lOdwtsgold. The meeting was brought to a close, by a vote of thanks to the chair.
