NAPIER.
This day,
The Governor landed to-day, and was received by the Mayor and Councillors, and a large concourse of people. The Volunteer companies, the Artillery and Bifles, formed a guard of honor. The usual addresses were delivered. Much enthusiasm was shown along the route from the Port to the town. On arriving in Hastings street the cortege was stopped to allow a Fire Brigade demonstration to be witnessed. This consisted of an arch of water from ten jets on either side of the street. The Governor was afterwards driven to the District School, where four hundred children were drawn up and sang the National Antbem. He also visited the Hospital. To-night he will be entertained at dinner by the members of the Hawkes' Bay Club, and be taken by special train to Biverslea, where the gubernatorial party will be the guests of Mr Thos. Tanner.
All the immigrants by the Westmeath and Rangitikei found employment within ten hours—the domestic servants at from 10s to 15s a week, most of them having had no experience.
