The English mails via Suez for New Zealand, which: arrived here yesterday by tha Ballarat, hare been sent to Sydney, where they will be placed on board the
Hanroto, which leaves for Wellington to
morrow.
Bishop Moorhouse has written a letter to the Argus in which he favors the opening of the Public Library on Sun* days.
■ Notwithstanding the evidence of miners the manager of the Ellenborough mine at Eaglehawk will be tried for manslaughter in connection with the death of two men who were crushed by a fall of stone in the mine last month.
It is stated that a bank manager at Eaglebawk has made use of one thousand pounds' worth.of scrip deposited by customers with the bauk. The name of the manager is, however withheld.
The statement that Mr Graham Berry intended to proceed to New Zealand was incorrect; he has undertaken to write fully to the Government regarding the decision of the Australian colonies to join the Postal Union.

Arrived, this afternoon: The P. and O. steamship Ballarat, with the inward mails via Brindisi and -Suez, dated April 6. Also, the Union steamship Rotomahana, from the Bluff.
The Hon. Graham Berry has returned here from Sydney. Sydney, Yesterday. The celebration of the Congregational Jubilee commenced here to-day. There were 60 delegates from other colonies present. The Rev. J. Jefferies, the President, delivered an address of welcome, to which Mr Daldy and others replied.
Hobaht, Yesterday.
A meeting of the Marine Board was held to-day to consider the circumstances at* tending the death of the steerage passenger McKay, a compositor, on board the steamer Manapouri, and the burial of the body at sea when the vessel was in sight of land. The Board, in their decision, exonerate Capt. Logan, of the Manapouri, from, any blame. .
