INVERCABGILL.
This day.
i An extensive fire broke out at 10.30 last night in the back shop of Dunlop, pdraper, of Tay street. The fire appeared to break out in the front shop. The premises consisted of a fine two-storey building which was, with its contents, completely destroyed. There was no insurance on the stock. Eoss, a fruitseller and captain of the fire brigade, had .a similar building next door to Bains's butchery, to the eastward, but this was saved. Adjoining, to the westward, and divided by a right-of-way, is Hay and Co.'s general store, which was also destroyed, but a large quantity of goods were removed to the shop of Perkins, a tailor, and two fruit shops. Eaine's butchery was gutted, and was pulled down to,stop the progress of the flames. On Price and Bulleu's large warehouse the fire was still raging at midnight, but it was not likely to destroy any property of great value.
