DUNEDIN.

Yesterday.

Eighty thousand acres of deferred pay* meet pastoral lands, at the upset price of 20a per acre, were offered today, being divided into 36 sections. Of these, eight sections, containing about fifteen thousand acres, were passed in; the rest (28 sections) sold at an average of about 30s per acre, the highest price being 61s. The total realised by the sale was £114,460. Humors were freely bandied about today that 70 cases of dummyism occurred

at the land sale to day, but the statutory declaration required by the Act was signed in every instance, and it is really impos* sible to teat the question. The Customs revenue for the month is £36,238. ■

This day. A fire broke out in a house in Hanover street last night, occupied by Charles Johnston, a carter. The premises were gutted, and the family made their escape with difficulty. The premises were insured for £150 in the Standard office, and the furniture for £75 in the Equitabl*.A house at Kensington, owned and occupied by John Gaffney, was totally burnt this morning. It was insured in the Standard for £450.
