Dunedin Race Meeting.

SECOND DAY. Dunedin, Yesterday. The weather was much less favorable to-day, some rain falling in the morning, but the day kept fine. The attendance was much less than on the Cup day. The event of the day was the D.J.C. Handicap, for which there were 7 acceptors, only one of which had not been engaged in the Cup — Tasman. Adamant, who carried (>st 71bs in the Clip, had 7st 51bs put on him to day, which rendered him a less favorite than wouldotherwisehavebeenlheca^e. Tasman was made the fancy, but all were supported. The results of the principal events were :
City Stakes Handicap : Stephenson's br c Hyacinth, 2 years, by St. Albans Black Bess. 7st 51bs (Butler), 1; Souness' b f Water Nymph, 2 years, Bst 51bs, 2 ; Hob. Mr Robinson's b c Barnaby, 2 years, Bst, 3. The three acceptors started, and Water Nymph was the favorite. From the jump, however, Hyacinth led, and was never approached, winning by 5 lengths. Time, luiin 4sees.

The betiiner showed how open and even this wa\ It was as follows : 5 to 2 against Tasman, 3 'o 1 Lady Emma, 3 to 1 Welcome Jack, 5 i.o 1 King Quail, Sir Modred and The Poet, and 6to 1 Adamant. The race was a grand one, and probably as close as ever seen on the course. Adamant got all the worst of the start,.and immediately fook up his tactics of the front, but the others stuck close by him. Lady Emma and Sir Modred tailed off, and the others were ia a bunch. About half a mile from home the real struggle began; Lady Emma shot up, followed by Sir Modred, while Adamant dropped backj King Quail here showed a clean lead which he had held for some time, but turning the corner the others were .alVof a cluster, Adamant last, and Sir Modred, and Tasman giving it best, while Lidy Emma had gone cloie up to King Quail, and The Poet was forcing his way ahead. Up the straight King Quail kept his lead, but all were whipping, and the places remained unaltered, except that Welcome Jack crme up and got level with Poet for third honors. King Quail won by two lengths from last yerr's Cup winner. Tasman, the favprilo, wes fifth ; Sir Mcdred and Adamanj !a«t. Tne time was 3mins. BsePS. - : ' ; ;'■*'.

Tbere was a capital race be* tween Jack and Aurora, who were favorites, Jack winning pretty easy at the finish by a length. Gitana and Teiroa 1 A >rom the start, but at the turn Leos aod The Poet came up and Tairoa fell away. Leos gdloped in a winner by four lengths. Time, 2mius 2|-secs. '
