Murderous Assault by a Husband.

(Per Puess Association.)

Auckland, This day,

A murderous assault was committed here this morning. A woman named Olson was asleep in bed when her husband attacked her with an axe and split her head open. He gave himself to the police. The woman was taken to the Hospital in an apparently dying state.

It is now considered possible that the woman Olsen, brutally attacked by her husband with an axe, may recover. She has a terrible gash, four inches in length, under the left eye. Nine pieces of bone, embedded an inch deep, have been extracted. The cause of the assault was jealousy. She had a protection order from him. Hearing from one of thechildren that another man had been cohabiting with her, he went up last night to effect a reconcilation ; she declined his overturU, and he returned to his vessel. About three o'clock this morning he went back to the house, effected an entrance, and taking an axe deliberately inflicted" the blow with the sharp edge of the axe on the side of her face, and then left the house and gave himself up to the police.
