Parawai District Board.
A meeting of the Parawai Highway Board was held yesterday. Present— Messrs Price (Chairman), F. C. Dean, and J. Roberts. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and con firmed. Mr F. Day was appointed Secretary and Collector. The Rate book was submitted and approved, and it was ordered that the necessary notices of the intention of the Board to strike a rate of Is in the £ be advertised. Considerable discussion ensued as to the advisability of the ratepayers either joining the County or Borough, for if they prefer to remain a Highway District, as at present, the ratepayers must pay two rates for that privilege. The Board decided to strike, and immediately collect, the rate, so as to have funds in hand to keep the footpaths in repair. The letter of Mr Tizard asking that the Board's office ba shifted further towards Augustus street, was received, and the work ordered to be done.
