Annual Flower Show.

There was a crowded attendance at the Flower Show, held in the Academy of Music in connection with the Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society last night. The lower part of the hall was'literally packed, it being difficult* even to get near enough to look at some of the exhibits, and there were also a large number of persons in the gallery. A string band, under the leadership of Mr Steward gave several selections during the evening. At about 9^ o'clock the v Mayor took the chair, and atter a few remarks called upon the Rev. E. Laishley to read the 13th annual report, which showed that during- the \ year 572 weekly reliefs, at'a cost of £100 ISs 6d, had been supplied to 23 fMOirietaß agaiwt £181 spent last y«»r.

Ten families are still on the books for relief varying from 2s to 5s worth of stores per week, and one aged woman who had been on the relief list asiace the Society started had died about three months ago. The thanks of the Committee were tendered to all who had given prizes for the show, to Captains^ Farqu'aar and Miller, who had given poor people free passages to Auckland at the request of the Society; and to Mr H. J. Wickens for an offer of a free passage to the Hot Springs for an invalid. The financial statement was also read, and showed the receipts for the year to have been £164 5s Bd, half of which was by Government subsidy, and the expenditure £127 Is, leaving a balance on hand of £37 4s Bd.

The Rev. W. Calder moved and Mr Ren*haw seconded, the adoption of the report, and the resolution was carried by acclamation. A resolution was also adopted thanking all who had assisted the Society duriug the year, and especially the donors of prizes for the show, and the ladi'S who had helped to make it a success.

An auction was held at half-past nine, Messrs Leydon and McGregor volunteer* ing to do the selling part. Amusement was caused by the efforts of these gentlemen to dispose of the articles at as high a figure as possible.
