1 H» Supreme Court at New Plymouth was occupied the nhole of yesterday on the trial of Antonio Schell, charged with having murdered Matthew Knolls at Stratford. Mr Govetfc sppeared as amicus curiae for the prisoner, who, when called upon to plead, eaid— •' I have murdered him, but ifc was the fault of my dreßßtt." This wbb taken as a plea of "Not guilty," and the trial was tben proceeded with, lbe medical evidence of Dr Boor, of Kelson, whs to the effect that the man was of sound mind during the time he was in Nelson Asylum. The jury retired at 6 o'clock to consider their verdiot. Ihe jury returned to the Court at 7 o'clock with a verdict Of " iOuilty." The Judge, in passing sentence of death, said be agreed with the verdict in point of law, but in bis own mind had a doubt about the prisoner's sanity at the time. The prisoner did the deed, and he should represent these doubts to the proper quarter. "WAN want* but little' here below, but want* tbut little stroug." Certainly.
