Coromandel Mining News.
[Fkom the Mail.] Kapanga.—On Sunday the shaft was emptied of water to the 600 ft level. Men were at once employed clearing out the chamber and preparing for carrying on operations from the low level. Bismabck.—The tributers hare been engaged fixing up the race, and have yet a lot of work to do in it, the danger
proving greater than was at first thought. In several places the fluraing has been entirely washed away, while other parts have been destroyed by huge trees which were blown, or wantonly felled on it Oae of them was over four feet in diameter. Royal Oak.—Mayne and party, tributers, had a splendid yield of 42ozs from a crushing of only 19Olbs of picked stone, while Sutherland also had a good return of 21ozs from a little more than a ton of dirt.
Comstock. — Hornibrook and party, tributers, crushed 3 tons, and some picked stone for 9^ozs of retorted gold. Haebob View.—Dunn and party have got a little gold occasionally, but nothing of consequence. Paeihaka, situated near the Corby battery, was formerly known as the Flying Cloud. The ground has been taken up under the above name. The low level, which was stoped before the reef was struck, is to be cleaned out at once, and carried on till the reef is cut. Union Beach.—The water is being rapidly reduced, and there is every probability of a few days more work seeing the shaft clear. The tributers, Davis and party, obtained 79 ounces from their crushing of 16 tons. The Union Beach battery is now engaged on a parcel from the Just in Time. Matawai.—Upper level—Driving on the lode both ways is being carried on. There is a good strong reef in both faces, and very fair gold has been seen in the general stuff. In the low level there is a compact body of stone, with a little gold seen occasionally. " Perseverance. —Mr McCarten has got , fairly to work conveying quartz to the mill, arrangements having been made to crush 500 tons at the Tiki battery. Tiebnan. —The prospects of this mine are-continuing satisfactory, good stone coming to hand. Langfobd and Party.— This party have been twelve months at work, and as the race is nearly finished, expect next week to be able to turn the water from the creek into it. The race has been a great undertaking, as may be judged from the fact that it diverts the water from about a quarter of a mile of the creek. The claim is half a mile long, so that half; of its extent will bo available during the ' summer for sluicing. Matawai Battery.—-It is believed that in another fortnight the battery will be complete. Work is now stopped for the want of timber. A good feature in the plant is the provision made for increasing the number of stampers, the bed log being large enough to carry another ten head. lona.—The contractor has made fair progress, but is now getting tight ground. The contractors for the re-erection of machinery are getting on with the work of pulling down the machinery on the Premier.
