THE TIKI BATTERY.—SUPPOSED LOSS OF QUICKSILVER.

One of the directors of the Home Rule informs U9 that the report is true tba'E a large quantity of amalgam and quicksilver has been discovered in the creek below the Tiki battery. Several parties have been disputing for the right to sluice. Fitzgerald, of Blackmore's, proposes to have! the creek below the battery site sluiced for the amalgam and quicksilver on behalf of both companies. The Ke~ se»rve Company hold ground on the creek next to tbe battery site. Some, party is sluicing on the' Reserve ground,'but steps are being taken; to stop this. It is now stated as a fact that six bottles of quicksilver, containing 4201bs weight, were lost during the crushing, and the cause of such loss is now about to be explained by its appearance in the creek. The directors of the Reserve Company met last night, and ordered a notice to be posted on the .sluice box. of the party working in the creek below the. battery, warning them cot to continue operations. The feeling of' the meeting was that the quicksilver in the creek belonged to the battery, and the directors determined to stop outsiders getting it. Messrs Blackmore and Brodie, managing directors of the battery, are deeply concerned over this discovery, as they consider the enormous loss of quicksilver has meant a corresponding loss of gold, and has damaged the reputation "of the district, and caused heavy losses to shareholders in the Blackmore and Home Rule miDes. They went out to-day to put on men to gather up the quicksilver. It transpires that for days past private parties have been engaged taking amalgam out of the creek. The chairman of directors of the Perseverance went out to:day to stop the crushing which' was to commence this morning.
