EGYPT.

The following special despatches have been published by the Auckland Star :—

London, August 21. In the skirmish at Cbalouf, the British captured a quantity of war munitions, cannon, and stores. The enemy, who numbered 600, were very strongly en* trenched.

A fresh canal (o supply the city of Alexandria with water will be cut by the British, ard the present one, which, was damagpd by Arabi, will be repairfd. The Notables at Cairo have decreed a forced loan of eighty million piastres (3fd each).

The canal was occupied by the British on Saturday night, prior to the arrival of the Alexandria force. The canal will form the future base af all military operations. Thousands of camels are being collected at Suez for transport purposes. Baron de Le^seps has issued a strong protest against the British occupation of the canal. The English papers advise his arrest.

London, August 22 (4.50 p m.) Cherif Pasha resumes his former policy. The Khedive controls the Council and army.

The French opinion is that England's action in Egypt is justifiable at the Conference.
