OUR MINES.

Summary of the Week,

Mining matters were very dull daring the first part of the week, and, compara* tirely speaking, no business was done by tbe "Corner" men. The find in the Caledonian, however, livened things up a a bit, and we hope, it will keep then so for some time to come. For some time past it has been the opinion of many experienced miners that the manager of this mine would yet come across a patch of gold, and their expectations hare now been verified. A discovery like this has a most important influence on the other mines of the field, inasmuch as it encour* ages prospecting, and stimulates the managers, <fee., to search with increased vigor for the precious metal. In the present case there is reason to believe that the patch will be a lasting one, as thereof has hardly been touched in this locality by the other managers of the mine. The Cure shares have .been quoted this week, though at a rather low figure. We should not be at all surprised to Had this mine coming to the front again, as the manager is prospecting vigorously, and seems to have met with fair success so far. The New Golden Crown also looks well, and promises to yield good returns for soci6 time to come. The Euranui Hill return for the month shows an improvement, bat is not so good as we would like to see. The Devon mine continues to produce a good supply of dirt, but the shares are falling in price. The Alburnia is not at present sending any stuff to the mill, the last crushing not proving near payable. The Moanatairi is steadily advancing, and the return for the past week is better than those for the past three or four months. The output of payable quartz is also increasing. There is no change to mention in the other mines.

Upper Country stock are getting rather dull again, and they have scarcely, been quoted at all this week. The Little Tommy shareholders have at last cut their reef, which they find is '3ft thick, and showing gold freely. Operations in the various other mines are being pushed ahead,.and we hope soon to hear encouraging news from this quarter.
